The Jeddah Tower mission
Koltay Facades was appointed to evaluate the state of the installed envelope of the next tallest tower in the world: The Jeddah Tower. The construction of the Tower was halted in 2018 with only 6 storeys of the 1-kilometer-tall facade installed. Almost 8 years after the unitized curtain wall units were originally produced and installed, Saudi Bin Ladin Group appointed Koltay Facades to investigate the facade and evaluate the potential degradation and give reecommendations whether the envelope can stay permanently, can be repaired or whether it must be dismantled.
Lead by Agnes herself, a task force was quickly assembled to carry out thorough inspection of the units from inside and outside. We spent a week in craddles, in the factory, witnessed pull-out embed tests and cut open some panels to see traces of degradation, if any. The findings report gave recommendations for future strategy.
