Koltay Façades have been invited by Alstom to give a seminar on seismic design. The event was organized to Crisis Response Officers, Health and Safety Managers and Team Ambassadors, to gain better understanding on how high-rise structures respond to earthquakes, enable them to plan appropriate emergency action plans for their various offices in the region. The event was initiated after last week's tremor, that could be felt across the UAE and many responded by evacuating the buildings. The talk included brief explanation of seismic events, soil types and liquefaction, primary structure behaviour, damping, code compliance, design approval procedures, facade cladding design criteria, brittle cladding considerations, seismic sway, risk of falling objects, risk of loosing balance. The talk was very well received and we hope it left participants and their colleagues more relaxed about a potential future seismic event.
