Opening of the National History Museum of Abu Dhabi with Koltay Facades
The National History Museum of Abu Dhabi opened its doors to the general public on the 22th of November and the Koltay Team was there to celebrate the handing over of one of our most emblematic projects. The design of the architectural firm Mecanoo was further developed and engineered by our team led by Guillermo, who was the project lead from the early conception and throughout the entire construction process. Accompanied by Agnes, they were part of the few people who got to experience the wonders of the museum and its exhibitions before the official opening date with the project team including Miral, EllisDon, Mecanoo, Broadway Malyan, Egis, Pascal+Watson, WAHO Landscape Architects, ALEC, Fibrex Construcion Group, AES, Facade Solutions LLC, Emirates Glass LLC, Al Mamary Skylight, Secco Sisteni, and many others. The Koltay team took part of coordination and engineering of the building envelope and the facade access scope and construction supervision for a total of 5 years.

This new gem of the Saadiyat Cultural District stands as natural rock formations emerging from the ground of the island's shore. The envelope, composed by a combination of white UHPC panels contrasting with the elegant brass frames of the curtain wall units encloses some of the most spectacular skeletons of history including Stan, the near complete Tyrannosaurus rex skeleton, a 25-meter female blue whale specimen and the Murchison Meteorite. Join Guillermo and Agnes in their journey through the opening night!
